Lawmakers Introduce “Conner's Law” in Honor of Murdered State Trooper Kevin Conner

Raleigh, NC – N.C. House Majority Leader John Bell(R-Wayne) and Deputy House Majority Leader Brenden Jones (R-Columbus) today held a press conference to unveil “Conner’s Law,” legislation that will enhance penalties for deadly assaults on law enforcement officers and increase the death benefit paid to the family of a fallen officer.

N.C. Trooper Kevin Conner was murdered last year during a traffic stop in Columbus County. The lawmakers were joined by members of the N.C. Highway Patrol and the family of Trooper Conner in unveiling the legislation on Thursday.

“It takes a very special person to be a State Highway Patrolman,” said Rep. Bell. “They put their lives on the line ever day to keep us safe and this bill sends them a very important message that we have their back.”
